In October 2023, I had the pleasure of judging the International Shrimp Contest Italy with an international jury.

October 2023 brought me a unique experience that will long remain in my memory. I had the honor of serving as a judge at the International Shrimp Contest Italy – one of the most important events in the world of aquarium shrimp breeders. This exceptional event gathered breeders from various corners of the world, and I had the opportunity to evaluate their best specimens among a group of distinguished industry specialists.

Each of us brought rich experience and diverse perspectives on shrimp breeding to the evaluation, ensuring objectivity and professionalism. Discussions among the judges were inspiring and full of valuable exchanges of opinions. Despite different experiences and approaches, our common goal was to select the best specimens based on their appearance, health, coloration, and other key characteristics.

The Complexity of Judging – A Challenge for Judges

Evaluating shrimp at an international level is an extremely complex process, requiring not only knowledge but also precision and attention to the smallest details. Shrimp were judged in various categories, depending on species, color, pattern, and overall condition. Aspects such as color intensity, body proportions, pattern symmetry, and the overall health of the shrimp were taken into account.

Each judge had to demonstrate not only theoretical knowledge but also practical experience to fairly assess these unique creatures. This required us to be familiar with the latest breeding trends, as well as to possess teamwork skills and the ability to exchange opinions constructively.

High Level of Competition

The International Shrimp Contest Italy attracted the best breeders from around the world, resulting in an exceptionally high level of competition. The exhibited shrimp impressed with their diversity and beauty, making the judging even more challenging. Each participant put a lot of effort into preparing their specimens, which was evident in their excellent condition and unique characteristics.

Participating in the International Shrimp Contest Italy as a judge was an incredibly valuable experience for me. The opportunity to work with an international jury and evaluate shrimp at such a high level was not only a challenge but also a great pleasure.
